When Abigail was born she spent the first few days in the ICU because of unknown reasons. In season 5, Garret revealed that he had been afraid to hold her and bond with her because her twin brother had died after 6 hours and Garret didn't think she'd make it either. Neither Garret nor Maggie told anyone about their son, not even Abigail.
