Woodrow Hoyt, commonly known as Woody, is a homicide detective originally from Wisconsin who often works with Jordan on her cases.
After first appearing in the episode "Wrong Place, Wrong Time", he became a regular in Season 4.
Early Life[]
Woody grew up in Kewaunee, Wisconsin. His mother died of cancer when he was four and his father, a sheriff, was shot in the line of duty when Woody was sixteen, leaving him to raise his younger brother Calvin by himself.
Personality[]
Woody is loyal to his friends (especially Jordan) and takes his job very seriously. While Woody is a nice person, he can be incredibly judgmental towards people with mental illnesses, referring to them as "nutjobs" and "crazy people". Over time, he grows into the kind of 'man' that Jordan needs and is sensitive, romantic and positive (opposite to Jordan's cynical side). He brings out the best in her, and she brings out the best in him.
Relationships[]
Familial[]
Calvin Hoyt[]
Woody's relationship with his brother is strained due to Calvin's history of addiction and Woody always feeling like he needs to be protective, a trait Calvin admits he had been taking advantage of.
Romantic[]
Jordan Cavanaugh[]
Woody is known to harbor romantic feelings for Jordan, who resists, preferring friendship because she believes it to be safer. On Jordan's birthday, Woody gave her a diamond friendship ring, a gesture that, according to Nigel, shows that Woody wants more from their relationship, but Jordan declined the ring. In Jump Push Fall, Woody is shot and nearly paralyzed by a cop killer. Upon hearing this news, Jordan rushes to the hospital and whispers something in his ear before he is taken into surgery. Woody later rejects Jordan, believing that she only said what she said out of pity. When Jordan comes to see him the next day, he tells her that he meant what he said. Their relationship then becomes very tense for a while. In Loves Me Not, they end up sleeping together when extreme weather traps them at an inn while they're working a case.
In the series finale Crash, Jordan finally admits that she loves Woody.
Sam Marquez[]
When a case took him to Las Vegas, he started a flirtatious relationship with Sam Marquez. Based on events that happened in the Las Vegas episode "History of Violins," the relationship seems to be off, although he was apparently invited by Sam to Delinda Deline's wedding.
